Making a piece of furniture from start to finish which would be yours to keep, recouping the cost of the course!


Xavier Haines has accomplished a reputation of making high quality country furniture over 21 years. He is now offering his skills and expertise in Cabinet Making and Antique Furniture Restoration Courses.

After serving a 5 year apprenticeship as a cabinet maker in Blagdon, near Bristol, he worked for Cathedral Furniture in London for 2 years. Where he was working on some very interesting projects, to name a few, American Express head office, the South African mining company Goldsmith and furniture for the Sultan of Brunei.

Xavier then moved to Toronto, Canada making furniture for the famous York Shopping Mall, in Down Town Toronto and Montreal, where he stayed for 2 years. Moving on from there he helped a friend set up a furniture & kitchen company, gaining valuable experience along the way!

On returning to the UK moving to Devon and working for various joinery/furniture companies, including Mount Edgecombe Stately House, in Plymouth doing restoration work.

After a further 5 years gaining valuable experience! he set up his own cabinet-making business in Honiton in 1989 under the name of 'Oak Fields'.

Xavier is offering tailor made courses, to give experience of making pieces of furniture, in a cabinet-making business environment. The courses are situated in the Market Town of Honton in Rural Devon.

Candidates will be making pieces of furniture from start to finish i.e. tables, chairs, bookcases, coffee tables, etc. The courses will be tailor made to the individual requirements, either on a one to one or one to two basis, dates and length of course to be arranged.
